Featured Photographer – Ryan Yap (aka Boiworx)

Recently I have been delving into the world of photography. I joined Flickr, from here I uploaded loads of photos. I would spend much time perusing the halls of flickr, looking through many photo streams. Some seemed promising but lacked creativity, some were very rigid with no real life. There is a wealth of different styles and personalities, but one day I ran over some photos by a user named “boiworx”. I saw a creativity and eye for the perfect shot.

His shots are more than portraits and landscapes, they are the drama found in every day life. Isn’t this the reason we take all of these photos, we are trying to stop time and carry the message of that moment to those who will look. Well, Ryan Yap has this down pat. Each of his photos carry a line of poetry that bring the thought and emotion across with true clarity.

Everyday a photo or two will pop up in my contacts stream and again I catch myself lost in photo. I asked my friend to allow me interview him and share his work with you. If you enjoy Ryan’s work let him know on his Flickr stream or comment below on this post.

When I first saw Ryan’s work I thought to myself that there was no way I could ever get a shot like that. After seeing the simple photographic roots, I took heart. So if your running around with a simple point and shoot, keep shooting. Develop your eye so when you have the best tool in your hand, you will already have the edge.

Recently I have caught onto High Dynamic Range photography. I asked Ryan what he thought good HDR entails. Ryan said that good HDR is “showing the full details with different color shades.” Sounds simple, this processing requires a great first capture and a proper subject. This is more than a simple Photoshop trick, and if any one had authority on this matter Mr. Yap definitely does. Oh and he says that the hardest shot to take is a sunset. I guess it could be done better?
On Fire

Ryan told me that his favorite place to take his photos is in the city or at the seashore.

Ryan’s final words of encouragement to the new photographer “practice and develop your skills”. Here at ThirdDesign we thank Ryan for letting us feature his work. Remember your most important tool is your eye. RobertB…
